Thanks for sharing. I think that for most people, their "love song" is a song that played when they met or that has special memories connected to them. That can later be painful or bittersweet, after a spouse has passed away or has moved on.
Are you genuinely finding these love songs "painful"? Could your response have something to do with what people tell you that you should be feeling right now, namely like a failure and ashamed or guilty for being such a failure? (How would you feel about these songs if you were widowed instead of divorced?)
I'm not divorced but I often find lovesongs silly and annoying. They're usually just like Valentine's Day, intended to create a market and generate turnover. But, if you need a beautiful one, listen to James Galway or anyone else who plays the flute well play "Spanish lovesong". Simple and sincere, mournful and grateful. No artificial red roses and boxes with pink hearts and artful bows connected to it.
PS
You're probably merely wiser and mourning a little.
Another amazing , insightful essay from my wonderful and oh so loving mamma dearest 💕 thank you for always making Valentine’s Day special for me and Marielle throughout our childhood. I will cherish those memories forever! Valentine’s Day is truly for all kinds of love, not just romance 🥰
I love this Valentine's newsletter and your exploration of all forms of love.
I so agree with this: "romantic love is but one kind of love and that the love all around me."
I'm gradually moving from the focus on romantic, personal love to true love--the love that's all around me and in every living thing. It's easier said than done, but becoming aware that we are not alone and that we are our own greatest love is a great starting point.
Great post and great links and quotes too. I think literally changing tune and embracing different music can help our spirits heal or do whatever they need to do.
Ah, my early bird reader, thank you! You are an Aries too--yet another way we are connected. So glad you found so much here to reach your own beautiful heart.

And of course, you will also have my love!
And you have mine, Louisa! Happy Valentine's Day and here's to love in all its marvelous forms!
To love!
Thank you for the shoutout, Amy! ❤️
It's always a treat when a new edition of Beyond lands in my inbox.

Thanks Jeffrey. I so believe in the healing power of music to take us to any mood we wish, which is why I feature songs with every post.
Thank you. ❤️
Thank you for reading and liking it, Mary!
Oh this filled my heart, Amy!
I concur - you ARE love. Thanks for sharing it here.
That David Whyte poem teared me up a bit. I haven’t read that one in quite a while.
And my fiery Aries sees your fiery full heart Aries! ❤️ I’m taking that horoscope and sending it to myself as my own Valentine.
To be my own audience. I need to sit with that for a while. Lots to pull on there.

I haven’t read the Steinem book and will definitely do so! Thanks! And thank you so much for leaving such a thoughtful comment.💗
