She who spins words in search of meaning
By learning to rest in the yearning, I am making peace with my identity as a seeker, knowing that in time, the answers will come.
On an April day in 2022, I sat on the floor of my bedroom, surrounded by magazines, colorful construction paper, cards from beloved friends, stickers, postcards, photographs, and printed quotes. I snipped images from the magazines and assembled a vision board of my essence: She Who Spins Words in Search of Meaning.
It was an expression of my two core identities: a writer who is also a searcher. A searcher of deeper meaning in everything—what I think, how I feel, how I relate to others and how I choose to be in this world.
Sometimes this aspiration to seek deeper meaning stays hidden within, especially when I let fear bully vulnerability.
And many times I have considered my yearning a burden or a curse, destined to never be satisfied, to always be in search of answers.
But on that afternoon, at play, I decided it was time to embrace this lifelong identity as a seeker. Today I consider my yearning one of my greatest gifts, as long as I learn to rest within it, and to listen for what it has to teach me.
If you, like me, carry a yearning within you (and could there be any human who doesn’t?), this week I have an armful of offerings to illuminate the way yearning informs our Clarity, Connection, Community and Creativity: book recommendations, podcast conversations, poetry, journaling prompts, and of course, music that captures for me the essence of yearning.
Welcome to the second of my weekly newsletters, for paid subscribers, published every Friday: a rumination on a theme that compels me and a curated list of ways that you can explore it as well. Scroll to the end to find the audio version of this letter.
